Kevin in Liberia

Its Purpose: to raise awareness of current social, political, ethical, and spiritual issues within a relief and development context in Liberia. Its effectiveness is simple: It relies on me, the author, to provide insightful, and often debate-sparking material that will encourage you, the reader to get engaged through comment contributions, emails, and promoting others to read, re-think, and respond to the important issues discussed.

I know not which is most profitable to me, health or sickness, wealth or poverty, nor anything else in the world. That discernment is beyond the power of men or angels, and is hidden among the secrets of your Providence, which I adore, but do not seek to fathom. ~ a prayer by Blaise Pascal

    Hi Kevin,
I don't know whether you posted these for me or not, but I was gobsmacked by the first one, as I mentioned I expected something from Dogs of War.

Then I saw the second one!

    One extreme to the other,

I suppose it's like the shanty town throughout the world,
how far is west point from the first picture?

Is your office visible in the first picture?

    Take care.

    Ian

    Hi Preston,

Yes, these are the much demanded pics of Monrovia. I tried to pick the best ones I could to post up here. Westpoint is maybe a 10 min walk to the left of the picture of Broad Street. I might try to get some satellite imagery of Monrovia and post it up here. My office would be off in the distance and no, you wouldn't be able to see it from any of those pictures. Again, I'll try to get satellite imagery of all of Monrovia and maybe highlight these certain areas on there...

    Hi Kevin,
I found off one of your links the google earth satelitte pictures.
I was quite surprised to see the close up shots, and indeed how close up you can get.

Is that a football stadium I can see in Monrovia?

I'd like to see the highlighted areas.

I also read the blog by the ex-pat, saying the do's and dont's.

Your name gets mentioned quite a few times!

    Thanks

    Ian

Yes, there are actually two football stadiums in Monrovia that i know about...one is downtown Monrovia and the other one is on the road out to Robertsfield Int'l Airport. I have pictures of that football field in the archives of my site somewhere. The Liberian National Team plays there sometimes...when their fans aren't destroying their coach's house because of a loss....

    Hi Kevin,
I hope you don't mind but I've nicked the 2 photos for my latest blogg. I've credited them to you.
Check out my first comment on it!
I must admit I've only just started reading your blog from the start and haven't reached the football bit.
I did know that George Weah (spelling) was running for the President's job though.

Have you seen the Google Earth pictures that I mentioned, they're amazing.

    Take Care

    Ian
